The deathly fumes rampage through the cracked lands,
Hissing in fury at the bleak expanse.
The scarlet blood is now a forgotten brown,
The wind winnows its way through the ghost town.
The crumbled walls weep for the children,
As they totter on the stairway to heaven.
The chairs ache for the familiar creaks,
And the cacophonous duet with shrill shrieks.
Victory raises its ugly head,
For it measures war at the cost of the dead.
